- Dr. John Thie, Touch for Health
The Integral Wellness Approach is a heart centered approach for self-healing and personal transformation that addresses physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being as they relate to the major areas of your life. This unique approach integrates many complementary modalities and practices focusing on cultivating health and wellness from the inside out. This allows us to move from survival to thriving and flourishing.
The Integral Wellness Approach is a culmination of over 15 years of study in a variety of holistic disciplines. It is a combination of both Western and Non-Western approaches, drawing from the fields of integral theory, modern brain science, positive psychology, mindfulness, mind/body medicine, energy medicine, transpersonal studies (spirituality, consciousness), quantum physics, somatic(body) psychology, pre/peri-natal psychology, neurobiology, epigenetics, psycho-neuroimmunology, occupational therapy, osteopathy, integrative nutrition, manual healing arts, life coaching, martial arts, and traditional Chinese medicine. It sounds more complicated than it is. Don't worry, I have simplified the approach. You already have all the answers.
The Integral Wellness Approach is based on the following principles:
- We are Mental, Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual Beings.
- When one of these areas are out of balance, they are all out of balance.
- The quality of food we eat, exercise, rest, toxins, sunlight, life satisfaction, and social relationships play a major role in our health and well-being.
- We can't solve a problem from the same level of consciousness that created it" Einstein
- With the proper guidance, support, and treatment, the body can heal itself.
- Mindfulness, gratitude, love, empathy, and non judgmental awareness improve health and well-being.
- The human body is an integrated unit in which structure and function are reciprocally and mutually interdependent (osteopathy).
- Change is constant. When we resist change, we create suffering and imbalance.
- "What you resist persists" - Resisting what is, locks it in place.
- The mind and body are inextricably linked and mirror each other.
- Our innermost dominant thoughts, perceptions, and beliefs affect our outer lives.
- Most of our thoughts, beliefs and perceptions about the world were formed before the age of six (all the way back to conception and pre conception) and are mostly unconscious.(pre-and peri natal psychology).
- Imbalanced perceptions create Imbalanced physiology.
- Our cellular DNA is being influenced by our perceptions and the external environment through the cell membrane(epigenetics, Bruce Lipton).
- Our thoughts and emotions influence our immune system, nervous system, and cellular physiology (psycho-neuroimmunology, neurobiology, epigenetics)
- “The immune system is constantly eaves-dropping on our internal dialog.”- Deepak Chopra
- Fear, anger and prolonged stress activates the sympathetic nervous system and puts the cells in "protection mode."
- A cell cannot be in "growth mode" and "protection mode" at the same time (Dr. Bruce Lipton).
- Unexpressed emotions can cause the body to tighten outside of our awareness creating pain patterns and many other symptoms.(Dr. John Sarno)
- Stress is the cause or a contributing factor to many diseases.
- Stress is largely perceptual and can be internal or external.
- Our brains are more malleable and changeable than was previously thought (neuroplasticity).
- We have the ability to "rewire" our brains (self -directed neuroplasticity).
- At our deepest level of being, we are all interconnected with each other and the universe.(quantum physics, interpersonal neurobiology)
- Consciousness is the core of our being and is beyond our mind.
- “Energy is the real substance behind the appearance of matter and forms" (Randolph Stone, DO, DC, ND)
- "All matter is energy" (Albert Einstein)
- Awareness is transformative.
- Without awareness there is no choice.
- The body has a record of all of our life experiences. (cellular memory)
- Early childhood trauma can lead to developmental delays, chronic illness, and erroneous perceptions about the world (ie. the world is unsafe, I am unlovable)
- Self-efficacy and self-care are necessary to live a healthy abundant life.
- Nature and the natural world contributes to human wellbeing.
- The well-being of the planet and environment is required for the well-being of the human.

“A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”
-Albert Einstein
Every moment our thoughts, words, beliefs, and actions are moving us toward or away from good health and vitality.
Often, people know that they should eat better, exercise, quit smoking, think positively, change careers, save their money, and manage their stress but they don't know how to get started, are overwhelmed, or "stuck in a rut." The good news is that we have the ability to make changes in our lives, our physical health, and mental well-being. Here is where I can help.
What is Integral Mind/Body Coaching?
Integral Mind/Body Coaching is coaching for the 21st century. It is based on the Integral Wellness Approach. IWC brings an array of skills to help you discover how to lower your stress, break habits, improve health, maintain clarity in the midst of chaos, and achieve better performance in all areas of life. As a coach and trainer, I utilize a variety of mind/body practices and energy medicine to help you relieve stress, increase well-being, and reach your goals.
Coaching is not therapy. We work in the holistic wellness model focusing on goals, outcomes, self-healing, and personal transformation.
Many chronic illnesses, pain conditions, mental and emotional difficulties, etc.. are caused or exacerbated by excessive stress, negative thoughts, emotions, poor lifestyle choices, or other factors outside of our awareness.
Mind/Body Skills Training is based on the integral wellness approach and is designed for individuals, wellness centers, health professionals, integrative medical centers, progressive hospitals, schools, and corporations. It can be used for stress management/reduction, chronic pain relief, chronic illness recovery and as a preventative measure. We utilize a multifaceted approach to increase self-awareness and release the destructive roots of stress. There are four components to the mind/body training program: mindfulness meditation, imagery/self inquiry, energy balancing, and mind/body movement.
